In June 1966, I was the platoon commander of 12 Platoon, Delta Company, and 6 RAR. (Royal Australian Regiment) I was also one of hundreds of soldiers who moved into the rubber plantation at Nui Dat and started to set up the Task Force base (1 ATF) from scratch.

In 1966 the Australian Department of Defence asked me to entertain our forces in Vietnam.
Little did I know that 43 years on, I will be travelling back to Vietnam and Long Tan, with Dave Sabben who was the Commander of 12 platoon D company 6RAR in the Battle of Long Tan. I have a great sense of pride, in being able to share in this experience.
I would like you to join
me on The AVVRG 6 Day Special Fundraising tour to Vietnam departing on the 22nd August 2009.
As an added bonus, I will
be joined by Long Tan Battle Vietnam Dave Sabben, who will lead us on a trek
from Nui Dat to the Long Tan Battle site, where today, stands the Long Tan
Memorial Cross.
